The Nielsen Company had conducted a study related to online shopping of year 2010 and reported that 1.1 million Malaysian shoppers aged 18 years and above spent an average of RM2,461 online. The amount they spent for shopping on local websites was RM825 million while foreign websites RM998 million. The main reasons Malaysians bought from overseas websites were because overseas websites had the products cannot be found in the country, wider choice and higher quality products. Better discount and less expensive were not so important anymore if compared with wider choice and product availability.

Based on this survey, the local e-commerce merchant should sell more choices of the good quality products to beat the oversea websites and increase their online business revenue.
